Parking improvements
● Create delineated parking spaces on Main/North Main St., increase signage for all parking in town
● Obtain quotes for development of the Borough-owned property purchased for a
mid-town parking lot in December 2014 where the Borough has already spent
$165,000 for the land purchase and pedestrian easements
Road improvements
● Pursue road improvement projects, particularly on Church St. and in the
Lakeview neighborhood
● Explore options with neighboring governments to limit truck movement through
town
● Work with Monmouth and Mercer Counties on implementing truck prohibition, 25
mile speed limit, and identified pedestrian crosswalk locations based on the
citizen traffic committee recommendations
Safety
● Apply for Safe Routes to Schools grant in concert with Upper Freehold Township
to install and improve sidewalks along the entire length of South Main Street
● Work with police on enforcement of speed limits on Allentown’s roads
● Explore feasibility for installing speed bumps, speed reminder radar signs, and
other traffic calming (speed reducing) mechanisms
Economic Growth
● Create tax incentives to bring new businesses to town
● Invest in advertising, promoting local businesses and town events in local media
Historic preservation and revitalization
● Support historic preservation and pursue additional grant opportunities for
historic towns
● Support long term initiatives to make Allentown a destination rather than a pass
through entity
● Promote events and initiatives that explore Allentown’s diverse historic roots
(including the contributions of women, Native Americans, and people of color)
Preservation of green spaces
● Work with neighboring municipalities, counties, state, non-profit organizations
and individual donors to preserve open spaces on Allentown’s borders
● Pursue additional grants for further park improvement projects and community
events
